Z3 Institute Welcomes Seth Mandel and Adam Louis-Klein as Adjunct Fellows
Two leading thinkers will develop books on heroism and antizionism
David H.—I’m delighted to welcome Seth Mandel and Adam Louis-Klein as adjunct fellows at the Z3 Institute of Jewish Priorities.
Both will be developing books on urgent questions for Jewish life today. Seth is at work on a major compendium of Jewish heroism through the ages. Adam is developing a book-length exploration of modern antizionism as a coherent ideology of anti-Jewish hate.
Their projects are very different, but both reflect the Institute’s mission: to cultivate serious Jewish ideas and bring them into the public square.
Seth Mandel: Jewish Heroism Through the Ages
Seth Mandel will be working on a definitive compendium of Jewish heroism through the ages, gathering stories of courage, leadership and sacrifice from across Jewish history and asking what they can teach Jews today.
Seth is Senior Editor of Commentary Magazine. He writes daily for the website Commentary.org, on politics, religion, and culture, with a special focus on the post–October 7 Jewish world. He also writes long-form essays for the print magazine on anti-semitism, Israel, and Jewish organizational life. Seth appears daily on the Commentary podcast. He is a former member of the New York Post Editorial Board and was Executive Editor of the Washington Examiner Magazine.
Adam Louis-Klein: Antizionism as a Hate Movement
Adam Louis-Klein will develop a book with the working title Antizionism: A Hate Movement. The project will examine antizionism as a coherent ideological formation of anti-Jewish hate that depicts Israel and “Zionists” as inherently colonial, racist and genocidal, and trace how this ideology has taken hold across academia, international institutions and political movements.
Adam is a writer, anthropologist and public intellectual whose work focuses on Jewish peoplehood, contemporary anti-Jewish ideologies and the renewal of Jewish intellectual life. He is completing a Ph.D. in Anthropology at McGill University based on ethnographic fieldwork with the Indigenous Desana people of the Amazon, bringing Amazonian Indigenous thought into dialogue with Jewish traditions, developing a comparative account of Jewish peoplehood and indigeneity. He is the founder of the Movement Against Antizionism (MAAZ) and a Postgraduate Fellow at the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism (LCSCA).
We are proud to give both projects an intellectual home and look forward to sharing Seth’s and Adam’s work as it develops.
Please join me in welcoming them to the Z3 Institute.
